The most delicious piece in planning a wedding is the cake tasting. When meeting with a cake vendor to select your wedding cake, make sure you arrive with your sweet tooth because you’re in for a real treat. Most cake vendors do a complimentary tasting for the bride and groom, allowing them to select the cake and frosting flavors. During your tasting, the bakery chef will also present design and decoration options. The majority of wedding cake vendors offer buttercream or fondant cakes. If you’re going for taste, I
think buttercream is the way to go…light, creamy, and oh so buttery…mmm good! But, if you have a detailed pattern or a particular design that you want pictured on the cake, fondant is your new best friend. Either way, when you take a bite of that cake, there’s no doubt that you’ll be in confectionery heaven!
When selecting your flavor, make sure to consider your guests (remember you’re not the only ones who will be enjoying the delectable masterpiece!)…is someone in your immediate family allergic to chocolate (heaven forbid!)? Does someone in your wedding party abhor cream cheese (how could you?!) Another careful consideration is the inside of the cake. Do you prefer a fruit filling or a mousse? If you’re not sure, make sure to request in advance that the cake vendor prepare a sample of each for your tasting. Finally, think about toppers that you may like displayed on your cake, whether it be a beautiful monogram, flowers, or ribbon and lace that will bring in your wedding colors. Most important is to enjoy yourself (I know I did when I took that first bite of moist, fluffy yellow cake with rich and creamy chocolate ganache!)
